UV TANNING - QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
Can anyone tan indoors?
Using indoor UV tanning units in moderation at a qualified salon can be a very relaxing and rewarding experience for most of us. However, certain "higher risk" people should not be exposed to ultraviolet light whether it be outside in the sun or indoors in a UV tanning bed. These people are individuals who:
* have a family history of skin cancer
* have had moles removed
* born with many moles on their body
* are under the age of 16
* have a very fair complexion
* burn easily and don't tan
If you fall into any one of these groups then you may be putting yourself at risk of developing skin cancer when you expose yourself to UV. As an alternative we suggest you use our UV-Free Mystic Tan sunless spray tan machine or one of our many high quality sunless tanning lotions.
How many sessions will I need to get a suntan?
Depending on your skin type, it will take 2 to 8 sessions for you to get a base tan. Initially you should visit every other day until you achieve the color you like, then 2-3 visits a week to keep it.
How long should I tan for on my first session?
Depending on your skin type, anywhere from 8-16 min. in a 20 min. bed or 4-7 min. in a super bed or booth. Providing you didn't burn, you should increase the time of your next visits by 1 or 2 minute increments.
Do I really have to wear those goggles?
Yes. Simply shutting your eyes is not enough. Your cornea, lens and retina may all be damaged by UV rays if eye protection is not worn. We provide sanitized protective eyewear at no charge.
Do I need to use lotion before or after I tan?
Indoor tanning lotions contain special ingredients to prepare the skin to tan more efficiently and make tans last longer. Those lotions are applied before your session. Moisturizers should be applied to the skin after tanning and showering to prevent dryness. DO NOT use outdoor lotions as they contain minerals that damage the expensive tanning bed acrylics.
Do I clean the tanning bed?
No. Please don't, this wastes time and paper. Regardless if you clean it, it is our policy to properly sanitize the beds and goggles after every use.
Can I request my favorite room?
We will take your request for a favorite room, however due to many circumstances we cannot guarantee you will get it every time.
When should I shower?
It is best not to shower an hour before or after you tan to maximize results.
Which tanning unit should I use?
Every person has different needs and interests. It is up to you to choose what unit you want. You may start your tanning sessions in any device provided you go a suitable time to prevent overexposure.
